Course aim:

To teach the correct techniques when working within a confined space. The correct use of breathing apperatus

Course content:

Day 1

  • Course admin/General safety precautions and objectives 
  • Health & Safety at Work Act 1974 
  • Definition of a confined space 
  • Rick assessment 
  • Confined space regulations 
  • Press cuttings of accidents 
  • Health and hygiene 
  • Dangers associated with rodents 
  • Safety harnesses / standards, types, use plus care 
  • Personal protective equipment 
  • Introduction to emergency breathing apparatus 
 

Day 2

  • Hazardous atmospheres / Identification of types and basic effects on the body 
  • Practicalities of gas detection 
  • Typical apparatus types / How the function and limitations of use 
  • Safe systems of work 
  • Legal requirements 
  • Review of safe working practices including use of permits 
  • Communications and emergency planning 
  • Prepartion of practical exercises 
  • Practical exercises 
 

Day 3

  • Emergency first aid / Recovery position 
  • Resuscitation 
  • Handling a casualty 
  • Bleeding and shock
